If you invest your time in cultivating your intimate relationships and friendships, investing your energies in exciting work, contributing to your community, you will be investing in
experiences that last. - Minor Minor by Elaine Hatfield
It is relatively easy to be a fairly good looking,
well groomed person. It is amazingly time consuming to become a star. Few of us can stand to waste the time.
-> Maybe I could spend 15 minutes a day to make myself presentable.
Even after becoming a multimillionaire,
Mr. Ford spent many long hours at the factory or tinkering in his laboratory, sometimes forgetting
to come home to dinner. Mrs. Ford would spend evenings reading in the Library, doing needlepoint or darning
worn socks for her husband.
'The only thing is,' said Henry Ford, 'I should like to be sure
of having the same wife.'
Smile, soften those those lips. Make your eyes laugh. Good for you! You'd
would be happy if you would add a little softness and generosity and kindness to your thinking. Build
up her confidence instead of tearing it down.
Try doing something about your hair and dress. Too severe.
Try to make them more alluring. God runs a beauty parlor. The beauty of an inner life was written on their
faces.
You can be what you want to be. Only you have to want it enough. To be sure there is a price to
be paid. Whatever you want more than you want anything else in life, that you can have.
If you make a
mistake, you will learn from it. Just don't make the same mistake twice. A child's mistake does
not have to be dealt with by disowning him. It is more important to try to get to the cause so that you
can avoid the problem in the future. And if it made clear that the cause is being pursued not to cause damage
to an individual's future but to help all employees learn, the result will be a valuable lesson
rather than a loss. In all my years in business I can recall very few people I have wanted to fire for making
mistakes.

each other better; we need to talk with, exchange views with, and attempt to understand each other. We
can argue and dispute, but we must approach each other as equals and do it with the objective of learning
about, and trying to solve our problems.
Learning new technologies is a way of life for us in Japan,
and others will have to do it; it is not possible or desirable to cling to the past.
You can be totally
rational with a machine. But if you work with people, logic often has to take a backseat to understanding.
Newton identified the law of gravity after seeing an apple fall from a tree, but he was by no means
the first person to see an apple fell from a tree. Plenty of scientists and ordinary people had seen that
sight before. But Newton was the first one to pay attention and extrapolate a natural law from a single
event, thereby discovering the law of gravity. That is scientific intuition, as I see it.
Emotions play
a much greater role than logic in the average person's buying decisions. Buying is more of an emotional
decision than a logical one.
People analyze with their left side. They agonize over information
and numbers, but they don't decide. The right side puts it all together and forms a picture, get a feeling,
and then makes the leap. Once the decision has been made, the left side kicks in and wants to get
it done with planning and organizing.
Left: collect information about market
Right: feeling on will it
sell?
Left: design, plan production and collect sale info Right: Feeling on why it does not sell
Left: plan

of types is hard to take sometimes but is in the long run quite desirable.
, If people with talents
in different areas can act so as to make up for each other's weak points while they make the best
use of their own strong points, then society will be strong in many different areas and able to prosper
in a wide range of circumstances. If people were all the same, our
society would be one-sided and dull,
and while there might be harmony there would be little development.
This is true not just as it applies
to man in relation to his society but as it applies to man in relation to the things with which he coexists
in the natural world. There are all kinds of trees and flowers in the fields and mountains. There is
a multitude of differeht birds and animals. We must accept all of them as they are, seeking out and celebrating
their diversity. It is the great variety of things in the landscape that makes nature so beautiful,
fascinating, and rich. Nature, indeed the universe, is where all things coexist and where all things are
granted free and full self-expression, and from this arises seisei hatten, growth, development, and transformation.
Seisei hatten can only arise when things are free to be themselves, free to modify and become
wholly new. Diversity is in this sense the final shape of progress. - Thoughts on Man

I was expecting to stay at home with my first baby, but that’s
not the way the universe planned it. The universe really does . . . You don’t have that much choice
in your life, which is one of the big lessons I’ve learned. I was going to be a designer whether I wanted
to be a designer or not. So there I was. - DKNY

The important thing in my view is not to pin the blame for a mistake on somebody, but rather to
find out what caused the mistake.
He wanted the freedom to be an artist, not a salaryman tied to a desk.
I
do not like to have my managers think they are a special breed of people elected by God to lead stupid
people to do miraculous things.
Irregular lot. The manager takes a good look at these rough stones,
and he has to build a wall by combining them in the best possible way. The stones are sometimes round, square,
long, large or small, but somehow the management must figure out how to put them together. People also
mature, and managers must also think of the shapes of these stones as changing from time to time. As
the business changes, it becomes necessary to refit the stones into different places.
People who can be
persuasive, can make people want to cooperate with them. Management is not dictatorship. Top management of
a company has to have the ability to manage people by leading them.
Morita, you and I have different ideas.
I don't want to stay in a company like yours where you don't have the same ideas as I have
and we are sometimes in conflict.
Sir, if you and I had exactly the same ideas on all subjects, it would
not be necessary for both of us to be in this company and receive a salary. Either you or I should resign
in that case. It is precisely because you and I have different ideas that this company will run a smaller
risk of making mistakes.
Marketing is creativity. Sony invites Diana to its factory, and give her a
hard hat with Sony on it in big letters, while all the photographers took pictures of her.
It is a mistake
to marry someone without having sex with her first. It was a mistake to open a factory overseas without
first first having a sales and marketing system established and knowing the market very well. My view
was that you must first learn the market, learn how to sell it, and build up your corporate confidence before

you commit yourself wholeheartedly.
The whistle is only a signal to start thinking over the day's
work in order to discover how it might be done better.
Machines and computers cannot be creative in
themselves, because creativity requires more than the processing of existing information. It requires human
thought, spontaneous intuition, and a lot of courage, and we had plenty of that in our early days and
still do.
How do you start a $60 billion company? That’s really easy. Here’s what you do: you go into
a market space that is growing enormously, and you come up with a breakthrough idea to deliver value and
capability that is unlike any other in the world, and then you just execute on it, that’s all you have
to do! - Michael Dell
In those days there were no transistors made for use in radios. Of course we were
not interested in the hearing aid market, which is very limited. We wanted to make something that could
be used by everybody. - Akio Morita
